GovBot Soils terms
These terms describe what GovBot Soils is, what it is not, and how to use it responsibly.
Plugin status: in preparation; not published. These terms apply to use of the GovBot Soils service.
What GovBot Soils is
GovBot Soils is an independent service from Ideation Lab, Corp. that helps prepare source-cited soil-survey briefs, explain NRCS recorded land-use limitations, and compare mapped soils across bounded public research areas, using USDA NRCS Soil Data Access (SDA) and SSURGO data.
No account or payment
No sign-in, API key, payment, or subscription is required. GovBot Soils offers no purchases or commerce.
What it is not
Results describe mapped soil survey information at survey scale. They are not a soil boring, laboratory result, percolation test, septic approval, permit decision, property appraisal, or engineering design. They do not establish parcel boundaries, the exact soil component at a point, flood or ponding determinations, or building safety. NRCS ratings are named-use survey interpretations, not site approvals.
Source data
Soil data comes from USDA NRCS, which remains its source. Data may be incomplete, change between survey versions, or be temporarily unavailable. Empty or failed records are reported as unknown, not as zero or absence.
Your responsibilities
- Check survey area, version, and dates in each brief, and confirm important details with USDA NRCS sources.
- Consult qualified professionals and the relevant authorities for site-specific, permitting, or engineering decisions.
- Do not send home addresses or confidential or sensitive personal information.
- Use the service within its bounded inputs (radius up to 1000 m; polygon up to 10 km² and 0.1 degree span).
Changes and availability
The GovBot Soils plugin is in preparation and not published. The service's features, availability, and these terms may change.
